DRAPING DESIGNER ICONS
This is a condensed version of the Designer Series from the book, Draping, the Art and Craftmanship in Fashion Design by Annette Duburg and Rixt von der Tol in which students drape a famous design from each haute couture designer. The group may identify the designer(s) to focus upon with the number of designers covered dependent on the length of class selected. Draping is done in muslin but students may wish to use the fashion fabric of the original. See our store for the book.
ART IN FASHION DESIGN
The basis for beauty in every aesthetic endeavor originates with the principles and elements of art. This seminar takes the student through each aspect, learning how the concept is applied to the design of clothing and how a designer can make the best decisions -- included are color, fabrics, line, proportion, rhythm, balance, the psycho-social message of designs and more.
DRAPING BEYOND TRADITION
Covers the three fundamental forms of clothing, the Anatomical, the Architectural and the Composite for one day each, exploring the basic premise and principles, the main designers and detailed patterns that best exemplify the concepts. Program includes sample garments and a workshop on each form of clothing and its leading proponents.
DESIGNING PAPER PATTERNS
This program takes the student through the entire journey from sketch to development of the paper pattern with the goal of being able to make a pattern for any garment illustration or photo. It includes the analysis of the photo or sketch for the best scale or design elements and the development of the complete pattern. Each step is illustrated for proportion and styling, dart manipulation, control of fullness, fit, grading, adaptation to figure type and finishing -- includes all garment parts and many designs from rare books and vintage resources.
VIONNET, THE ART OF CUT
Madeleine Vionnet was known as the most innovative pattern maker of the 20th Century and became the teacher of many of the great designers of the Golden Age of Couture. This program explores her complete body of work and much of those who have used her methods since she closed her house in Paris in 1939. Vionnet was known as the inventor of the bias -- a tribute to her elegance with the scissors and her creativity. Extensive samples and patterns.
ZERO-WASTE PATTERN DESIGN
Zero-Waste seeks to design and cut clothing in which there is very little or no scraps of fabric left over destined for the land fill. It is the key to sustainable fashion but requires designing the pattern before the designing the finished look of the garment. While there is some design risk, it is more than outweighed by the pleasant design surprises gained in using this approach. Program consists of a variety of designs for zero-waste and how to work through the process to assure success.
