Cocoon Coat

This short coat is based upon the molded elegant look of the toppers in the Balenciaga era. It has deep dolman 3/4 raglan sleeves which begin at the hip and are seamed into a funnel neck.  It has a front facing but no closures. The lavender  sample is done in a wool coating with a directional nap and the rust version is a polyester taffeta; both create an interesting change in light reflection for the design.  Lining is optional. Some of the variations for this design include a variety of fabrics from sheers to rain wear --  and it could be cut as a full length coat, perhaps with a zipper!  Due to the unusual bias cut, this pattern requires intermediate to advanced sewing skills -- not for beginners.

On the Body:  This jacket is very comfortable since the sleeves can accommodate clothing underneath without constraint.  It also works well for those who have difficulty fitting the bust line.  In addition, it can be made in a variety of lengths for the most flattering hip line. When paired with a dress, skirt or pants, the visual effect will make the hips, wrists and neck appear more narrow in comparison to its silhouette and the open front creates a strong vertical line which is also slimming.  Measurements:  SM = 50-1/2" (128.3cm), MD = 52-1/2" (133.4cm), LG = 55-1/2" (141cm).  Bust line measurements include sleeve at that level.
