New Fashions From Old

Being clever at making beautiful clothes from beautiful fabrics that have been re-purposed is not new.  Some of the best have figured it out in times far more trying than ours now and the results are in this book.  It is one of two we are reprinting from the World War II era of the 1940's -- a time of serious glamour even though a war was on.  The other book, Make and Mend, is due out soon.  In this book are detailed diagrams of women's jacket and skirt layouts on fabric deconstructed from men's suits.  In this age of casual dressing, the recycle shops are full of men's suits -- many of expensive English and Italian wools which now cost from $50 to over $100 per yard in the high-end fabric shops.  They are a virtual textile goldmine and should not be wasted. (Think business potential here.) The instructions in the book outline how to disassemble and clean the suit fabrics and recut them into new fashions.  As we know from the vintage market, these fabrics are woven to last through 25 - 40 years of wearing so the value is there.  Also included are multipurpose ideas for updating designs and children's wear.
